As someone who has worked in the food industry for many years, I can easily say that I have seen increased donations from companies of all sizes. It is to be commended. However, I have never seen a staff, board, and consumers who are any more dedicated to doing whatever it takes to End Hunger than Soylent.
Today is Hunger Action Day, a part of the larger Hunger Action Month. Over the course of the month, I have thought a lot about what “Hunger Action” means and how we can deepen our impact because this year is different. Action is needed now more than ever. Millions of families are going hungry because they have experienced illness, unemployment, homelessness, and so many other tragedies due to the many challenges we have all experienced this year. We at Soylent are meeting the need by giving back more than ever before.
Since the inception of our Soylent For Good programs, we have now donated more than 4,000,000 meals.
This is no easy task for a company of any size. It is no easy task even for the industry's giants, but for a scrappy food start-up, you have to think about how to give and why you give continually. We have prioritized support for our communities in all business functions, and I am honored to say we do just that. There is not one department at Soylent that isn't involved in donating, volunteering, or giving back; it is a part of not only what we do but also who we are.
Today, on Hunger Action Day, I am excited to showcase our action, our donations, and our team's commitment to doing what is right.
Here are a few actions we have taken over the last year to end hunger:
-
Since last September, we have donated an additional 2 million meals.
-
We have donated to hospitals, food banks, homeless shelters, and fire stations.
-
We lowered the price of our powder products to $1.50/ meal to ensure they are accessible and affordable to anyone who needs it.
-
We have partnered with retailers, including Target and Walmart, to amplify our donations.
We are not stopping here. We will continue to keep pushing as we know that there are likely to be more COVID cases as we go into the fall, additional natural disasters as we push through fire and hurricane season, and more families in need as we approach the holidays.
I want to acknowledge everyone who purchases our products because we could not do what we do without you. Thank you! As a reminder, we will continue to donate meals for every bottle purchased throughout this month.
Lastly, I want to thank our employees and our investors for keeping our mission at the forefront of our business. It is an honor to work with each of you, and I know that together we can indeed have an impact.
Keep buying, and we will keep donating! Together we can end hunger!
