The last few months have made us realize the importance of working together, solving problems, and supporting our communities. Soylent has had a give-back program since the inception of the company. We have been really fortunate to be able to work with our network of incredible partners and find synergistic ways to support those in need.
I wanted to share with you a few things that Soylent has been doing to continue our support for our community during this crisis.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been donating Soylent products to food banks all around the country. Food Banks are different from food pantries and are connected to Feeding America. They can receive large donations from the food industry and get them out to pantries, hot meal programs and the homeless shelters they serve. They have a sizeable operational infrastructure that allows them to support their communities quickly and easily. We are proud to have donated more than 500,000 meals in the form of Soylent products since the beginning of the crisis. These products are going directly into emergency boxes that food banks are getting to homebound seniors, the homeless community and families in need all over the country.
Because Feeding America supports more than 200 food banks around the country and they work with food companies, retailers and a variety of corporate partners, they can leverage donations effectively and efficiently to create large-scale impact. They have recently set up a COVID-19 Response Fund that is going to directly support on the ground efforts during this crisis.
We are proud to announce that in 2020, #SoylentForGood has made its most significant financial commitment to-date and will be making 1.5 million more meals possible in partnership with Feeding America. This is in addition to the product we are giving elsewhere and will bring the total meals donated by us to more than 4 million before the end of the year.
As a part of this commitment, we are participating in Walmart’s Fight Hunger Spark Change program, which is an incredible way for companies and the community to work together and donate money to Feeding America food banks. Throughout April and May, for every Soylent purchased at a Walmart store or on walmart.com, an additional meal will be made possible to a neighbour in need.
Target is another incredible partner to us and to Feeding America and is also working with us on increasing our ability to support. Last Fall, we created an exclusive Target item with the commitment to donate one package in partnership with Swipe Out Hunger for each box purchased in store. We are now working with Target to donate to Food Banks as well and committed to giving more than 70,000 additional meals to Feeding America partners in April.
We are very proud to be working with other companies who share our commitment to support communities we work and live in. No one company is going to fix these problems alone, but when we work together and build cross-sector partnerships, we can start to have a real impact. We are also thankful to Feeding America for all the incredible work that they do every day supporting Food Banks. Also, a big thank you to Walmart and Target for stepping up and giving back - we are proud to partner with you.
Stay well,
Demir
P.S. We have created a resource website with the intent to provide support to our local community, Los Angeles. Please share it with anyone who is looking to get or give help in Southern California. Also, let us know if you have resources we can add or connect us with others in the Los Angeles area.
